Credit card transactions accelerate in Sep

Credit card transactions in September 2005 accelerated. According to JCC data released on Thursday, the use of credit cards in September recorded an increase of 13% against 8% in 2004. For January-September, however, credit card transactions slowed down, recording an increase of 10% against an increase of 13% in the corresponding period of 2004.

The value of domestic credit card transactions stood at £51.5 million in September against £45.5 million in September 2004. For January-September, it reached £467.3 million against £424.2 million in the corresponding period of 2004.

The total value of credit card transactions by Cypriots abroad in January-September recorded an increase of 16% to £127.9 million (2004: £110.3 million). In September, Cypriot credit card users spent £16 million abroad against £13.9 million in September 2004.

Total credit card transactions by Cypriots in January-September 2005 reached £60 million.

Credit card transactions by foreigners slow down

Credit card transactions by foreigners in Cyprus increased by 5% in January-September against an increase of 9% in the corresponding period of 2004.

In September, the value of transactions by foreign credit card users stood at 3% against 4% in 2004.
