Credit card transactions increase

The use of credit cards in the domestic market recorded an increase in November, according to new JCC data.

According to the figures, the value of credit card transactions by Cypriots in the domestic market rose by 4% to €179.6 million. In October, it fell by 3%. The number of transactions increased by 5% to 2.8 million.

According to JCC, an increase was registered in government services, clothing and footwear and stores while there was a decrease in utilities.

Without the governmental sector, the increase was 2%.

For the period January - November 2014, the value of credit card transactions rose by 5% to €2027.9 million.

According to the figures, the use of credit cards by Cypriots abroad, including online shopping, recorded a slight increase.

Credit card transactions by Cypriots outside Cyprus inched up 1% to €97.8 million. In October they fell by 1%. The number of transactions increased by 2% to 951.4 thousand.

In the first eleven months of the year, credit card transactions by Cypriots abroad dropped by 9% to €1059 million.

As for the non-Cypriots, the value of transactions rose by 16% in the eleventh month of 2014 to €40 million. In October, the increase was 9%. The number of transactions soared 27% to 441.8 thousand.

For the period January-November 2014, transactions by non-Cypriots in Cyprus recorded an increase of 16% to €599.8 million compared to the corresponding period of 2013.
