Credit card transactions surge in June

According to JCC Payments data released on Friday, the use of credit cards by Cypriots abroad recorded an increase of 25% against an increase of 20% in the corresponding month of 2005. In January-June 2006, the increase stood at 26% against 16% last year.

Specifically, credit card transactions by Cypriots abroad stood at £16.9 million against £13.5 million in 2005. In January-June 2006, they reached £100.7 million against £80 million in the corresponding period of 2005.

Transactions by Cypriots in Cyprus

According to JCC, the total value of domestic credit card transactions by Cypriots showed an increase of 19% to £62.5 million against £52.5 million in June 2005. In January-June 2006, they surged 17% to £345.8 million against £296.4 million in the corresponding period of 2005.

Same figures revealed that credit card transactions by foreigners in Cyprus increased by 2% against an increase of 5% in June 2005. In the first half of 2006, the use of credit cards by tourists recorded an increase of 7% against an increase of 5% in the same period of 2005.
