Dangerous yogurts withdrawn

The health services instructed the withdrawal of quantities of yogurt from the market, which contain the dangerous and forbidden conservative E-235 natamycin.

According to Health Minister, Stavros Malas, this substance should not pose serious risks to the consumers since the concentrations are small.

The Ministry also released the types of yogurts and the names of the dairy industries that have been affected. They are: Lefkonoitziatis strained yogurt best before 9/9/2011, Kouroushis strained yogurt best before 9/9/2011, Zita super strained yogurt best before 14/9/2011 and Barba Thomas strained yogurt with milk and cream produced by Zita.

Responding to questions, the Minister said that according to scientific studies on animals, the high concentration of the specific substance does not cause health problems.
