According to CYSTAT data released on Thursday, the volume and the value of the retail trade in July recorded an increase of 11.7% and 10.1% respectively compared to June 2004.
However, although the turnover in the retail trade increased by 3.3% in July, the volume of sales fell 0.4%.
In January – July 2004, the volume and the value index of the retail trade showed an increase of 3% and 5.5% respectively compared to the corresponding period of 2003.
A CYSTAT source reported that the drop in the volume of retail trade in July should not lead to hasty conclusions and insisted that comparisons between seven-month periods are safer.
