Retail trade indexes decline in August 2020

Cyprus retail trade indexes concerning value and volume marked an annual reduction of 3.5% and 4.8% in August, reflecting the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, figures released on Monday by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) show.

According to Cystat’s provisional estimates, in August 2020 the Turnover Volume Index of Retail Trade decreased by 3.5% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and reached 122.7 units (base 2015=100).

For the period January-August 2020, the index is estimated to have recorded a decrease of 2.8% compared to the same period of 2019.
 
Compared with the previous month of 2020 the value index marked a reduction of 6.1% interrupting a three-month consecutive growth.
 
According to Cystat provisional data, in August 2020, the Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade declined by 4.8% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, amounting to 116.0 units (base 2015=100).
 
For the period January-August 2020, the index is estimated to have recorded a decrease of 4.3% compared to the same period of 2019.
 
Compared with July 2020, the index marked a reduction of 4.7%.
