The launch of winter sales will give a boost to the trade, Commerce Minister Antonis Paschalides stated on Thursday in the light of the drop in credit card transactions in December.

On the question about the market’s performance in December, Mr. Paschalides said that in the past 15-20 days the market looked up.

“One of the reasons that we hastened the start of sales was to contribute so that this dynamic in trade continues”, he noted.

“We agree with POVEK that this will boost trade, especially the small-medium businessmen and the shop owners”, he added.

Invited to comment on the fact that some announced earlier sales, he said that the competent authority has proceeded with inspections and has made remarks when necessary. “Some of them have complied some others no”, the Minister said.

“Those who have not complied, will be brought to justice”, Mr. Paschalides concluded.
