Supermarkets demand prompt submission of bill

27/01/2005 13:02
The Supermarkets Association requested on Thursday the hastening of the procedures for the legislative regulation of the opening hours of the retail stores.

At the meeting between the representatives of the Association and Chairman of the House Labour Committee, Sotiroula Charalambous and member of the Committee, Giorgos Varnava, the Association asked by the Parliament to intervene so that the Labour Ministry submits the bill before the end of February.

“There is a need for a legislative framework and uniformity in the operation of stores (supermarkets, off-licenses, bakeries, kiosks). There is room for all. But not all stores can have the same opening hours as the special stores or sell the same goods. The Association will take drastic measures if there is no legislative regulation by February 17”, Supermarkets Association Executive Secretary, Andreas Hadjiadamou said.
