Volume for retail trade up in January

The Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade for January 2023 increased by 12.5% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, according to data provided by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. For the same month, the Turnover Volume Index of Retail Trade increased by 6.1% compared to January 2022.

In the value index, the biggest changes were noticed in the categories "Computers and telecommunications equipment, curtains, carpets, books, stationery, sporting equipment, toys, flowers, plants, watches, jewellery, etc." which increased by 21.7%, "Other retail sale (in nonspecialized stores)" increased by 19.9% and "Textiles, clothing, footwear" increased by 18.1%.

In the volume index, the biggest changes were recorded in "Computers and telecommunications equipment, curtains, carpets, books, stationery, sporting equipment, toys, flowers, plants, watches, jewellery, etc." which increased by 22.9%, "Textiles, clothing, footwear" increased by 17.3% and "Non-food products (except automotive fuel)" increased by 11.5%.

The volume index of retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco (in specialized stores) decreased by 1.1%, compared to January 2022.
