Building licenses up 8.3% in Jan-Nov

According to CYSTAT data released on Monday, building licenses for January-November 2003 have showed an increase of 8.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2002.

The number of building licenses for January – November 2003 reached 6,856 (Jan – Non 2002: 6,329), while the increase in volume and value of the projects was larger, amounting to 12% and 15% respectively. The total volume of construction projects reached 8,022 cubic meters (Jan – Nov 2002: 7,137cubic meters), whereas value stood at £940,806,000 (Jan – Nov 2002: £816,228,000).

The number of large projects for the same period soared 30% to 623 compared to the corresponding period of 2002 (480). Specifically, the volume and value of these projects increased by 12% and 18% to 3,705 cubic meters (2002: 3,294 cubic meters) and £398,227,000 (2002: £336,684,000) respectively.

The total number of housing licenses increased by 9% to 5,171 (from 4,745), while the volume of those projects increased by 25% (from 4,708 to 5,902 cubic meters). The value increased by 26% to £697 million (from £555mln).
