Building permits down the first two months of 2023

Building permits recorded a 12.7% decrease for the first two months of 2023, compared to the same period of last year, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Friday.

During the period January – February 2023, 1,143 building permits were issued compared to 1,309 in the corresponding period of the previous year. At the same time, the total value of these permits increased by 2.1% and the total area by 0.9%. The number of dwelling units recorded an increase of 0.3%.

In February 2023, the number of building permits authorized by the municipal authorities and the district administration offices during stood at 553. The total value of these permits reached €160.8 million and the total area 147.6 thousand square metres. These building permits provide for the construction of 608 dwelling units.

Building permits constitute a leading indicator of future activity in the construction sector.
