Cement sales slow down

Cement sales in Cyprus continued to increase in October 2004, in a slower pace. According to CYSTAT data released on Friday, domestic cement deliveries from the two cement companies Vasiliko and Moni increased by 10.8% to 138 thousand tons compared to 125.4 thousand tons in October 2003.

As a result, total cement deliveries for January-October 2004 recorded an increase of 18.1% to 1,268.7 thousand tons against 1,074.1 thousand tons in the corresponding period of 2003.

According to the Statistics Service, cement exports reached 10.8 thousand tons in October against 17.8 thousand tons in the corresponding month of 2003.

Vasiliko Cements General Manager, Georgios Sideris said that the increase in demand will continue until Christmas.

Similarly, Cyprus Cement Company Executive Chairman, Giorgos Galatariotis said that demand at the area of Limassol will remain at the same level by mid 2005 but expressed his concerns on the lack of scheduled construction projects for 2006 – 2007.
