Jan cement sales surge

14/02/2005 10:41
According to CYSTAT data released on Monday, domestic cement sales in January 2005 recorded an increase of 36% to 122 thousand tons compared to 89 thousand tons in the corresponding period of 2004.

This increase is mostly attributable to the favourable weather conditions for the construction industry. “Heavy rains in January 2004 reduced the cement sales compared to January 2003. These indications have further boosted by reports concerning the delivery of other construction material, such as macadam and sand”, Cyprus Cement Company Executive Chairman, Giorgos Galatariotis said.

As for the future performance of the cement sales, Mr. Galatariotis expressed his reservations due to the conflicting forecasts on the prospects of the property market. However, “the operations of the largest developers in Paphos continue. The first half of 2005 will be better than the corresponding period of 2004”, he concluded.
