Price index of construction materials climbs to a new high in May

Cyprus price index of construction materials marked its fifth annual rise in May, rising by 7.71% reaching a new historic high.

According to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat) the index for May rose to 108.62 units (base year 2015=100), recording an increase of 2.18% compared to the previous month. On a monthly basis the index in May marked its sixth consecutive increase.

By main commodity category, metallic products recorded the highest rise with 17.22%, followed by products of wood, insulation materials, chemicals and plastics with 6.08%, electromechanical products with 3.51%, minerals 2.35% and mineral products with 1.43%, Cystat added.
