Cyprus the only EU member state with 100% 5G population coverage

Cyta’s 5G network was completed on Monday to include the village of Sykopetra in the Limassol district, making Cyprus the only EU member state with 100% population coverage.

Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation Kyriacos Kokkinos praised this fact, according to a press release by Cyta.

The last antenna for the 5G was set up today at an event in Sykopetra attended also by the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities Costas Champiaouris and Cyta officials.

Kokkinos spoke of Cyta’s crucial role in Cyprus’ digital transformation noting that the provision of networks and services island-wide contributes to Cyprus’ digital development and financial resilience.

Champiaouris said that Cyta is one of the pillars in implementing the development of the communities in the mountains and their technological upgrade.

Cyta’s Chair said that no other country in the EU has 5G coverage for its entire population.

The head of Sykopetra’s community authority said that Cyta’s role is important for the progress of remote villages.
