The major issues in today’s financial press are the statistics for the building permits in 2008, the statistics for the tourist revenues in January 2009 and the CSE drop in the past few days. The daily press focuses on the reactions for the transfers in the police.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to CYSTAT’s data on the building permits in 2008. According to the report, the building permits fell 6.6%, while the property market is suffering in the past few months since sales and purchases have recorded a sharp drop.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that the Labour Ministry’s efforts to tackle illegal employment have started.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” refers to CYSTAT’s data on tourist revenues in January 2009. According to the report, the new year started badly. The sharp drop in arrivals (-7.1%) was accompanied by a decline of 11.6% in revenues.

“Politis” also highlights that according to SEC, Armonia Estates did not mislead the investing public with its public offer for the acquisition of Pandora Investments and Leptos Calypso Hotels.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the CSE drop in the past few sessions. According to the estimates of CSE Chairman, Giorgos Koufaris and the economist, Stavros Agrotis, the factors that push the CSE down are related to the investors’ psychology, the lower profits and the losses of the listed companies, the negative course of the international stock markets and the fact that Cyprus has not experienced the real crisis yet.

The newspaper also reports that DISY will raise before the House Audit Committee the government’s decision to proceed to negotiations for the purchase of natural gas with no transparent procedures.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper ‘Haravgi” refers to the session of the House Committees of Equal Opportunities and Labour. According to the report, the session focused on the operation of the Equality Committee.

“Haravgi” also highlights that Polemidia Coop celebrates 50 years of action and offer.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Alithia” refers to the statistics on tourist revenues in January 2009. According to the report, the first indications for the tourist revenues confirm the mounting concerns for tourism. Tourist revenues fell 11.6% in January and tourist arrivals dropped 7.1%.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that the G/C and T/C businessmen agreed more frequent contacts.
