CAIR: Submission of final proposal at 5.00 pm

The time has come for Cyprus Airways, for the ministerial committee is expected to submit the government’s final “take it or leave it” proposal at 5.00 pm.

At 8.00 in the morning, the committee had a two-hour meeting with the Cyprus Airways Management in order to evaluate the trade unions’ stance and decide on the final plan.

It is worth noting that the meetings between the ministerial committee and the trade unions yesterday proved unfruitful. Commerce Minister, Giorgos Lillikas admitted that there is a huge gap between the positions of the two sides and the company is collapsing. The flight attendants rejected the plan in advance and Chairman of their trade union, Costas Constantinou stated that their answer will be negative if the new proposal is based on the same aspects.

SIDIKEK-PEO General Secretary, Antonis Neophytou warned that the trade union will not give its consent to a plan that breaks the employees security limits.

“We hope that the final proposal is not like that”, he added.

According to sources, the trade union disagrees with the efforts to allot certain Cyprus Airways services to the private sector and urged the government to eliminate the provision for a 5-year freezing of salaries, to reduce the salary cuts and improve the proposal on the shift system.

The pilots, who presented a study according to which the company saves £1,845,000 from the operators’ allotments, avoided commenting on the issue.
