Cyprus and Egypt sign agreements

Cyprus and Egypt signed significant agreements during the official visit of the minister of transport, communications and works Marios Demetriades to Cairo from 6 to 8 of March 2016.

The minister was accompanied by the director general of the ministry Alecos Michaelides and other officials from the ministry and the ports authority.

According to an official announcement issued on Wednesday, during his visit, Demetriades met with Egypt`s Minister of civil aviation Houssam Kamal and discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

At the meeting, an air transport agreement between Egypt and Cyprus was initialed and it was agreed to sign the agreement within three months. The agreement provides for the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries by increasing the frequency of flights between Cyprus and Cairo. The Cypriot minister has also requested for additional flights between Alexandria and Cyprus.

Demetriades met with his Egyptian counterpart Saad El-Geyoushi and discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation in various areas of transport including the cruise sector and trade between the two countries. To this end, they agreed to establish a joint working committee of representatives. The first meeting of the commitee is expected to take place in April.

A tripartite meeting of the transport ministers of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt was also held and the three officials agreed to look into existing opportunities and incentives that can be offered to attract tourist cruises. They also discussed the possibility of operating commercial shipping lines between the three countries` ports.
