Credit card transactions slow down

According to JCC Payment Systems data released on Tuesday, credit card transactions by Cypriots in January-February 2005 showed an increase of 9%, while the total number of transactions increased by 11% compared to the corresponding period of 2004. The total value and number of transactions reached £93,415,098 and 2,382,336 respectively. In January-February 2004, the value and number of credit card transactions recorded an increase of 15% and 13% compared to the corresponding period of 2003.

On the other hand, credit card transactions by Cypriots abroad recorded an annual increase of 12% to £25,124,062 and the number of credit card transactions surged 18% to 267.213. In January-February 2004, the value and number of credit card transactions by Cypriots abroad showed an increase of 9% and 14% respectively.

Credit card transactions by tourists in Cyprus increased 1% to £19,740,539 in January-February 2005, while the total number of transactions dropped 3% to 238.232. The corresponding rates in 2004 stood at 8% and 7%.
