House to regulate urban planning licenses shortly

29/06/2004 08:17
Chairman of the House Interior Committee, Andros Kyprianou expressed the Committee’s decisiveness on Tuesday to proceed to the legislative regulation of the urban planning violations for the provision of deeds to a number of housing units and complexes, which will contribute to the drop in fiscal deficit through the influx of millions of pounds in the State Funds.

“The issue will be settled before the Parliament’s holidays”, Mr. Kyprianou said, stressing that the Interior Committee will meet on Monday to hasten the procedures for the approval of the bill. This regulation is also included in the Convergence Program submitted to the EU.

At the meeting, the members of the Committee had talks on the legal terms and interpretations of the bill and expressed their divergent views on the regulation.

MP Demetris Syllouris, on the one hand, stressed the need to give a chance to those who bought houses by the developers to legalize the deviations made by them (developers), since buyers are not responsible for the construction of the building.

On the other hand, MPs Rikkos Erotokritou and Yiannis Lamaris supported that this would enable the legalization of almost all violations.

Talks will continue.
