4 agreements for Cyprus and Armenia

President of the Republic, Demetris Christofias and President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, who arrived in Cyprus for an official meeting, signed four agreements on Monday.

At first stage, they signed a joint declaration for the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Then, Foreign Minister, Marcos Kyprianou and his Armenian counterpart signed a double tax avoidance agreement in relation to the taxes on the income.

Then, Commerce Minister, Antonis Paschalides and his Armenian counterpart signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a common action program in 2011 – 2012 within the framework of the adoption of the agreement on the sector of tourism between the two countries.

As for the fourth agreement, it was signed between Health Minister, Christos Patsalides and his Armenian counterpart and concerns their cooperation in the sectors of public health and medical science.

Mr. Sargsyan and his wife were accepted by the President of the Republic, Demetris Christofias and his wife, Ersi, at the Presidential Palace in the morning.

Speaking in Russian, President Christofias expressed his satisfaction over the outcome of his visit to Armenia, and wished Mr. Sargsyan’s visit in Cyprus to be constructive.

Speaking in Russian too, Mr. Sargsyan thanked President Christofias for the hospitality and noted that the two countries share common interests and common history.

Prior to the official talks of the two delegations, the two Presidents made brief statements.

Mr. Christofias referred to the common bonds between the two countries and said that the people of Cyprus and Armenia retain a brother-like relationship and that the Armenians constitute a very creative part of the Cyprus society.

The Armenian President expressed his wish the two countries to upgrade their relations.

He stressed that the relations between Cyprus and Armenia can be upgraded in many fields such as Education, Culture, Agriculture and “why not” the Military.
