Cyprus to take part in EXPO2020 to be held in Dubai

With the aim of promoting its business and investment opportunities as well as increasing its visibility, Cyprus participates in the EXPO 2020 to he held in Dubai from October 1 until the end of March, 2022, Cypriot officials said on Thursday.

Cyprus will participate with a dedicated pavilion and Cypriot officials will take part on various events, while on February 24, 2022, a business forum will be held on the occasion of Cyprus’ National Day in the presences of President or the Republic Nicos Anastasiades.

Stelios Chimonas, the Deputy Ministry of Research Innovation and Digital Policy and George Campanellas, CEO at the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Cyprus) presented Cyprus’ participation six-month in the world-class exhibition in Dubai.

Chimonas said that Cyprus will participate in the EXPO 2020 with a 200-square metre pavilion with six booths dedicated to six themes, namely art and culture, tourism, gastronomy, business, investments and education. A hologram of Aphrodite will welcome the visitors who will be able to be acquainted with Cyprus through special videos downloaded via a special application.

“The aim of Cyprus’ participation is for visitors to get to know Cyprus and what it has to offer in terms of business and investments activities as well as quality of life,” he said.

On its part, Campanellas said Cyprus’ participation constitutes a “unique opportunity for Cyprus as the exhibition takes place in the region of Middle East and the Gulf".

“The region the exhibition takes place in, falls within the targeted regions (of Cyprus) as regards tourism and attracting businesses and investments,” he said.

Furthermore, Cyprus will take part in events hosted by the exhibition organisers while it will host events dedicated to Cyprus culminating in the Cyprus National Day on February 24, 2022, when a business forum organised by Invest Cyprus in the exhibition’s main building will take place, in the presence of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

An additional business forum will be held on November 25, while Minister of Energy Natasa Pilidou will visit EXPO on October 3 – 4 to take part in an event on empowering women and climate change. Deputy Minister for Tourism Savvas Perdios will visit EXPO for Cyprus tourism promotion events to be held on October 30, 2021, and March 22, 2022, while Prodromos Prodromou, Minister of Education will take part in an event for the promotion of digital education on December 14, 2021, in the context of which an event for the promotion of Cyprus tertiary education will be held.
