FiMin responds to opposition on benefits

24/04/2003 12:04
The Finance Ministry has met the opposition’s criticisms with regard to the delays in the payment of the benefit to families with many children, stressing that “this is an unsuccessful effort to blame the present government for not applying the provisions of the tax reform”, although delays are attributable to the former government, which refused to apply the provisions of the specific legislation, approved by the Parliament.

The Finance Ministry assured that the government will reexamine and settle the issue shortly and pointed out that current relief measures are only temporary in the face of the Easter holidays.

The payment of the benefit concerns the first quarter of 2003 and aims at the relieving of those families that did not receive their benefit on 1/1/2003.
