GHS and reforms on the agenda

Today’s meetings of Troika, which continues for a fourth day the evaluation of the implementation of the Cyprus memorandum will focus, inter alia, on health issues, the reform of the civil service and shipping.

At 9:00 teams of creditors will hold parallel meetings at the finance ministry on labor issues and health issues with emphasis on the General Health Scheme (GHS), while afterwards issues of the shipping sector will be discussed.

In the afternoon, as CNA notes, a troika team will discuss the reform of the public service by sector.

In particular, the role, responsibilities, organizational structure, size and staffing of ministries, services and independent authorities, the possibility of closure, merger or consolidation of non-profit organizations or companies and state organizations and the possibilities for reorganization and restructuring of local government will be examined, according to the memorandum.

At the Central Bank (CB) a meeting will be held about provident funds, during which the issue of joining the supervisory authority of provident funds with the supervisory authority of insurance companies will be discussed.

The curator of provident funds Theofanis Tryphon and technocrats of the Ministry of Finance and the CB will participate in the meeting.

Other meetings on issues of the financial sector will also be held between technocrats of the creditors and CB.

The heads of Cyprus’ creditors will be on the island on Sunday, and will have their usual meeting with the Finance Minister Haris Georgiades and CB Governor Chrystalla Georgadji.

The final content of the updated Memorandum is expected to be completed by the middle of next week.
