Harmonised inflation rises to highest point in 19 years in February

Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose by an annual 5.8% in February in Cyprus, recording the highest reading since April 2003, pushed upwards by rising oil prices.

According to date released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat), For the period January - February 2022 the HICP recorded an increase of 5.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

According to Cystat, compared to the index of January 2021, the HICP increased by 0.9%.

The largest annual change in terms of economic origin, was recorded in Energy with 26.2%.

Compared to February 2021, the greatest changes were noted in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels and Transport with percentages of 13.4% and 11.2% respectively, Cystat added.
