Ηarmonised inflation dropped by an annual -0.8% in January 2021

Cyprus Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices declined by 0.8% in January 2021, remaining in negative territory for ten consecutive months, according to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat).

The HCIP in January 2021 amounted to 98.41 units compared with 99.24 in December 2020 marking a reduction of both 0.8% both on a monthly and on an annual basis.

Compared to January 2020, the category Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels had the largest negative change with a percentage of 5.3%, while the category Clothing and Footwear (5.4%) had the largest positive change.

Compared to December 2020, the largest change was recorded in Clothing and Footwear (-13.9%).

As regards the economic origin, the largest change when compared to the index of January 2020 was observed in Energy (-10.7%). When compared to the index of the previous month, the largest change was monitored in non-energy industrial goods with a percentage of -3.4%.
