Industrial Production up by 5.2% in January

Industrial production in Cyprus this January was up by 5.2% compared to the same period of 2021, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat), on Wednesday show.

In particular, according to CyStat the industrial production index in January 2022 reached 124.6 units (base 2015=100), recording an increase of 5.2% compared to January 2021.

The manufacturing sector registered an increase of 0.2% compared to January 2021. Increases were also observed in the sectors of water supply and materials recovery (34.7%) and electricity supply (20.3%). The mining and quarrying sector recorded a decrease of 11.1% compared to January 2021.

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to January 2021 were observed in the economic activities of: manufacturing of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products (59.6%), electronic, optical products and electrical equipment (40.0%), furniture, other manufacturing and repair/installation of machinery and equipment (18.1%) and machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (13.6%).

At the same time, negative changes were observed in the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (22.2%), wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture (12.8%), paper, paper products and printing (12.4%) and basic metals and fabricated metal products (10.5%).
