Inflation at 6.7% in February

In February 2023, inflation increased by 6.7%, the Statistical Service announced on Friday. The Consumer Price Index increased by 0.87 units, reaching 112.88 units, compared to 112.01 units in January 2023, a relevant announcement said.

As regards the economic origin, the largest change when compared to the index of February 2022 was recorded in Electricity, with an increase of 42.2%.

In comparison to the index of the previous month, the largest change was monitored in Agricultural goods, increased by 8.6%.

Compared to February 2022, the largest changes were monitored in the categories Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, increased by 18.1% and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages with an increase of 9.6%.

In comparison to the CPI of the previous month, the largest change was noted in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, up by 3.6%.

Compared to the Index of February 2022, the categories Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages had the largest effect on the change of the CPI, with 2.43 and 1.97 units respectively. Electricity, with 1.68 units had the most notable effect on the change of the CPI of February 2023 compared to February 2022.

The category Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages had the largest positive effect on the change of the CPI compared to the previous month, with 0.78 units. Fresh vegetables, with 0.62 had the largest positive effect on the change of the CPI of February 2023 compared to the previous month.

For the period January-February 2023, the CPI increased by 6.9% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, with the largest changes recorded in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, up by 17.7% and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, with an increase of 10.2%.
