Deflation continues

Cyprus recorded a deflation for the second consecutive month in January 2015, according to Eurostat data, while prices in the EU and euro zone also declined.

According to the figures, inflation in Cyprus was -0.7% in January 2014 from -1% in December 2014 and -1.6% in January 2014.

Euro area annual inflation was -0.6% in January 2015, compared to -0.2% in December 2014. In January 2014 the rate was 0.8%.

European Union annual inflation was -0.5% in January, from -0.1% in December. A year earlier the rate was 0.9%.

In Greece, inflation fell by 2.8% from 2.5% in December.

The lowest annual rates were registered in Greece (-2.8%), Bulgaria (-2.3%) and Spain (-1.5%).

The highest annual rates were recorded in Malta (0.8%), Romania (0.5%), Sweden (0.4%) and the United Kingdom (0.3%)
