CPI up by 1,47% for September

According to the latest data released by statistical service, the Consumer Price Index for September 2001 increased by 1,57 units or 1,47% to 108,70 units compared to 107,13 in August 2001. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of clothing, footwear and furnishing items following the end of summer sales as well as to increases in the prices of certain fresh vegetables, potatoes, and tuition fees of private educational institutions and part-time educational coaching centres.

For the period January-September 2001 the CPI recorded an increase of 1,84% compared to the corresponding period of 2000. The rate of increase of the Index for September 2001 compared to September 2000 was 2,05%.

Food & non-alcoholic beverages rose to 112,37 units, Alcoholic beverages & tobacco remained at 123,86, Clothing and footwear rose to 97,76, Housing, water, electricity & gas fell slightly to 109,79, Furnishings, household equipment & supplies rose to 101,90, Health reached 115,72, Transport 107,79, Communication 89,22, Recreation & culture rose to 100,81 units, Education rose to 115,97 units, Restaurants & hotels rose to 117,84 units and Miscellaneous goods & services 110,88 units.
