Inflation at 1.2% in April

Cyprus recorded inflation of 1.2% on an annual basis this April and 0.8% on a monthly basis, while in the first four months of the year it recorded slight deflation of 0.1%, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat), on Wednesday, show.

In particular, in a press release CyStat says that in April 2021 the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices increased by 1.2% when compared to the index of April 2020 while, when compared to the index of March 2021, the HICP increased by 0.8%.

For the period January - April 2021 the HICP recorded a decrease of 0.1% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, it adds.

According ot CyStat`s data compared to April 2020, the largest changes were noted in Clothing and Footwear and Transport with percentages of 5.1% and 5.0% respectively.

Compared to March 2021, the largest changes were recorded in Clothing and Footwear (5.3%) and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (3.7%).

For the period January – April 2021, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest changes were noted in Communication (-3.8%) and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (-3.4%), CyStat says.

As regards the economic origin, the largest change when compared both to the index of April 2020 and to the index of the previous month was observed in Energy with percentages of 10.6% and 4.6% respectively, the press release concludes.
