Inflation up by 1.4% in July

Inflation was up by 1.4% this July compared to July last year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Friday, show.

The Harmonized Price Index for July 2018 was up by 1.4% compared to July 2017, while compared to June of 2018 if fell by 0.2%, a Statistical Service press release says.

For the period January-July 2018 the HICP increased by 0.2% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, it adds.
Compared to the index of July 2017, the largest change was noted in the category of “Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels”, by 6.1%.
 
Compared to June 2018, the greatest change was recorded in the category “Clothing and Footwear” with a drop of 17.4%.
 
In the first seven months of this year compared to the same period of last year, the greatest changes were observed in “Clothing and Footwear” (-3,1%) and in “Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine House Maintenance” (-3,0%).
 
As regards to economic origin categories the greatest annual change this July was recorded in “Energy” with an increase of 13%.

Compared to June, the greatest change was negative and it concerned “Non-Energy Industrial Goods” with a drop of 5.5%.
