Inflation in Cyprus was at 8.7% in November

Inflation in Cyprus was at 8.7% in November 2022, the Cyprus Statistical Service announced on Friday. The Consumer Price Index increased by 0.54 units and reached 114.55 units compared to 114.01 units in October 2022, recording an increase of 0.47%.

As regards the economic origin, the largest changes when compared to the index of November 2021 were recorded in Electricity, by 32.3% and in Petroleum Products, by 16.3%. In comparison to the index of the previous month, the largest changes were monitored in Water, which increased by 3.6%.

The data published by CYSTAT show that, compared to November 2021, the largest changes were monitored in the categories Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, which increased by 17.3%, in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, by 15.5%, and Transport, by 10.7%.

In comparison to the CPI of the previous month, the largest change was noted in Clothing and Footwear, by 1.4%.

Compared to the Index of November 2021, the categories Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels and Transport had the largest effect on the change of the CPI, with 2.97, 2.36 and 1.76 units respectively.

The categories Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, with 0.19 units, Transport with 0.16 units and Clothing and Footwear with 0.11 units had the largest positive effect on the change of the CPI compared to the previous month.

Petroleum Products and Electricity had the most notable effect on the change of the CPI of November 2022 compared to November 2021, with 1.58 and 1.4 units respectively.

Finally, Petroleum Products, with an impact of 0.23 units had the largest positive effect on the change of the CPI of November 2022 compared to the previous month.

For the period January-November 2022, the CPI increased by 8.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The largest changes were recorded in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, which increased by 21.4% and Transport, with 16.9%.
