June 2021 inflation increased by 3.1%

In June 2021, the Consumer Price Index increased by 0.32 units and reached 102.39 units compared to 102.07 units in May 2021.

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, in June 2021, the inflation increased by 3.1%.  For the period January-June 2021, the CPI increased by 0.5% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

As regards the economic origin, the largest changes when compared to the index of June 2020 were recorded in Petroleum products (22.1%) and Electricity (17.2%). In comparison to the index of the previous month, the largest change was monitored in Electricity (5.3%).

Compared to June 2020, the largest changes were observed in the categories: Transport (11.2%) and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (7.3%).  In comparison to the CPI of the previous month, the largest changes were noted in Clothing and Footwear (1.9%) and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-1.9%).

For the period January–June 2021, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest positive changes were recorded in Transport (4.6%) and Clothing and Footwear (2.7%). Whereas, the largest negative changes were noted in the categories Communication (-2.9%) and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-2.4%).

Compared to the Index of June 2020, the categories Transport (1.55) and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (0.85) had the largest effect on the change of the CPI. The category Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.37) had the largest effect on the change of the CPI compared to the previous month.

Petroleum products (1.53) and electricity (0.56) had the most notable positive effect on the change of the CPI of June 2021 compared to June 2020.

Finally, fresh vegetables (0.21) and electricity (0.19) had the largest positive effect on the change of the CPI of June 2021 compared to the previous month, whereas fresh fruit had the largest negative effect of 0.57 units.
