Former House President, Demetris Syllouris, businessman and former MP, Christakis Giovanis, lawyer Andreas Pittadjis, and Giovanis Group Executive Director, Antonis Antoniou will face a criminal trial on October 26, as they are charged for corruption over a cash-for-passports scandal, Nicosia District Court decided on Monday.

The four, who appeared in Nicosia District Court on Monday, face five charges, including conspiracy to subvert the Republic and influencing a public official in violation of the laws criminalising corruption. Their first appearance at the Criminal Court will take place on October 26 at 9.00am (local time), the Nicosia District Court judge announced in their presence

The court decided to proceed with a trial based on the findings of the Nicolatos inquiry after what was shown in an Jazeera report related to the Cyprus Investment Program (CIP).

The court also decided to set a bail of 50,000 euros for each of the three out of the four accused -  Syllouris, Giovanis and Antoniou -  and of 30,000 euros for Pittadjis.
