Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will attend the EU-League of Arab States (LAS) summit that will take place on February 24 and 25 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Prodromou noted that the aim is to strengthen the relations between the Arab world and the EU and that the agenda of the meeting will include issues as multilateralism, trade and investment, migration, security and the situation in the region.

The Government Spokesman stressed that President Anastasiades attributes particular importance to relations between the EU and Arab countries and has promoted and supported particularly within the framework of the European Council organising this summit and the development of the European-Arab relations.

Prodromou said that due to its position and on the basis of the trilateral cooperation mechanisms developed in the recent years and the broader upgrading of the relations of Cyprus with the Arab world the Republic of Cyprus can play a particular role in the European-Arab relations, to the benefit of security, stability and cooperation in our region.

A Joint Declaration is expected to be issued after the conclusion of the summit.

President Anastasiades is expected to hold, in the framework of the summit, bilateral meetings with heads of state or government from the Arab League.
