FinMin rejects DISY Chairman’s criticisms

16/12/2003 14:05
“It is ironic to expect that all problems of the Cyprus economy will be solved within the period of ten months”, Finance Minister, Marcos Kyprianou said on Tuesday, rejecting the criticisms made by DISY Chairman, Nicos Anastasiades in Parliament on Monday.

On his statements after the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Kyprianou replied to all criticisms, stressing that Mr. Anastasiades never said something positive for the government of Tassos Papadopoulos.

Invited to comment on the large number of complementary budgets submitted within the period of ten months, the Minister said that their vast majority concerns commitments of the former government, as well as extraordinary requirements that have gradually emerged.

As regards to fiscal deficit, Mr. Kyprianou noted that it is impossible for the government to eliminate the serious structural problems of the Cyprus economy in ten months, especially when these problems were not solved by the ten-year governance of former government.
