No agreement on car tax, says DISY

18/11/2003 14:32
DISY will officially announce this afternoon its own proposals on the car tax in cars, which will focus on a further decline of the tax ratio in low cc cars and an increase in the duties of the high cc cars, DISY Deputy Chairman said on Tuesday.

Following the meeting with the Finance Minister, Marcos Kyprianou, Mr. Neophytou said that the DISY representative (MP Lefteris Christoforou) was not engaged against the governmental proposal, stressing that DISYS’ approach favours even cheaper cars, suitable for the low and middle classes.

“We have carried out a thorough study of the governmental proposal. DISY will announce its official proposals on the restructuring of the car tax this afternoon”, Mr. Neophytou noted.

Invited to commend on the statements of the Finance Minister that it would be difficult to amend the bill, Mr. Neophytou said that this is what both parties believe, since neither DISY nor the Minister are in the position to know what the behaviour of the consumer to the new institutional framework will be.
