In his attempt to refute the report of newspaper “Phileleftheros” and the criticisms of the opposition parties, Transport Minister, Kikis Kazamias reiterated on Wednesday that the revenues from the recent price hike in fuel will reach £6-£7 million and will cover the deficit concerning the amount due to theowed to fuel companies.
Mr. Kazamias said that the report is inaccurate, as the government did not proceed to price increases in fuel to cover other fiscal needs and criticized the opposition parties “for taking advantage of the sensitivity of the social groups”.
Similarly, Government Spokesman, Kypros Chrysostomides condemned the criticisms on behalf of the opposition and emphasized that on an announcement released on Tuesday, the Commerce Ministry clarifies the issue.

Meanwhile, EDEK Party urged the government on Wednesday to proceed to the granting of subsidies to the farmers, who are not indifferent to the recent price hike in fuel. Speaking on behalf of his party, EDEK MP Giorgos Varnavas urged the government to support farmer either in the form of subsidy or in the form of offsetting measures. “A possible denial on behalf of the government will affect negatively the competitiveness of our products”, he said.
DISY Deputy Chairman, Lefteris Christoforou also criticized the government for misleading citizens on the issue of fuel.
