MoF: No to practices of the past

“We should not return to practices of the past that are responsible for the derailment of the economy”, Finance Minister, Harris Georgiades stated on Friday.

Mr. Georgiades, speaking before the 15th Pancyprian Conference of SEC civil servants sent a strict message to those who want to return to practices of the past.

“It would be criminal if at this crucial stage, when the economy is on a recovery track, we returned to practices and attitudes that are responsible for the derailment of the economy”, he said.

He noted that “the first positive indications for the course of the economy should not be seen as an opportunity for early termination of the efforts to create a new competitive economy”.

The minister indicated that we should continue our efforts to promote, inter alia, those changes and reforms that will create a more effective and efficient public sector, which will be an ally and supporter of the private sector, always aiming at growth.

He also stressed that in the two years of the implementation of the program, namely the memorandum, no civil servant or an hourly seasonal employee was fired and no taxation was imposed.
