MoF: Recovery is fragile

Finance Minister, Harris Georgiades said on Wednesday that the positive GDP growth in the first quarter of 2015 is a significant development that confirms the positive prospects of the Cyprus economy stressing, however, that the recovery is fragile.

In a written statement from Georgia, he said that “after 14 consecutive quarters of negative growth it has been recorded and has now been announced by the Statistics Service the achievement of a positive GDP growth of 0.4% in the first quarter of 2015”.

“This is certainly a significant development that confirms the positive prospects of the Cyprus economy”, he said.

“At the same time, though, we must note that we still have some distance to cover. The recovery is in the early stages and thus remains fragile. For this reason the joint effort to reform and consolidate our economy must be continued, away from premature celebration, not with negativity but with confidence that we will succeed”, the statement concluded.
