Committee to promote maritime culture

Cyprus’ Shipping Deputy Ministry has set up a committee to promote maritime culture, seafarers and maritime studies, a press release issued on Monday said.

The Committee is chaired by the Deputy Minister of Shipping and comprises of representatives of Cyprus Shipowners' Association, the Cyprus Chamber of Shipping and the Cyprus Maritime Institute.

The purpose of the Committee is to coordinate the actions of all the bodies that make up the maritime community of Cyprus with the aim of developing a maritime culture and promoting maritime studies and professions as well as to carry out proposals for academic programs that will fully respond to the modern challenges and needs the shipping industry in Cyprus and internationally is faced with.

The committee met on Monday and Deputy Minister, Vasilis Demetriades, said that the aim is to join efforts and coordinate actions for the benefit of the shipping industry.
