Cyprus launches new more flexible tender for maritime connection with Greece

The Deputy Ministry for Shipping announced it has launched a new tender for the maritime connection between Cyprus and Greece, after the first tender failed to attract official bids.

According to the Ministry, the deadline for tender submissions is 12.00 on the 28th of January 2022. Further details regarding the tender and process of application can be found in the following link: https://www.eprocurement.gov.cy.

According to the documents, the new tender provides for more flexible structure with state subsidy increased to €5.5 million per year compared with €5 million of the first tender for 22 round trips to be carried out between April/May and September/October compared with 31 round trips throughout the year as stipulated in the initial tender.
 
Furthermore, the tender can be expanded for an additional three years depending on the average passengers carried by the successful bidder. Moreover, the bidders can submit more than one ship provided that the vessel complies with the tender’s criteria, while the ship will have a minimum passenger capacity of 100 persons and cabins that can accommodate 60 passengers, as opposed to 200 passenger capacity and cabins that could accommodate 140 passengers as per the previous tender.
 
The Deputy Ministry said it will present the provisions of the tender on an online presentation on 29 November scheduled for 12:00 local time followed by a presentation on December, 12:00 local time in Piraeus, Greece (Piraeus Port Authority Building - 10, Akti Miaouli str., 18538 Piraeus). Interested economic operators are welcomed to attend either the virtual or physical meeting and submit questions, the Deputy Ministry added.
