Considerable reductions in mobile rates

The first positive consequences for consumers – after the Competition Protection Committee decision against CYTA – will occur from October 1, 2002. During today’s press conference, CYTA has announced considerable rate reductions in mobile and international telephony.

The reductions are as follows: calls from mobile phones to steady phones reduction by 52%, while calls between mobile phones reduction by 28%. Low charge rates from mobiles to steady phones reduction by 70% and calls between mobile phones by 12%.

The SoEasy call rate (pay as you go mobile telephony) to mobile phones reduces from 10 cent per minute to 8.6 cent per minute (14%), while SoEasy call rate to steady phones reduces from 10 cent per minute to 8 cent per minute (20%).

As far as international telephony new charges are concerned, the following reductions will occure: 44% for Greece, 50% for the United Kingdom, 60% for Germany, 50% for the USA and 78% for Australia. The new rate reductions will be valid as from October 1, 2002.

The president of CYTA Board of Directors, Efstathios Papadakis, has announced that the Authority is bound to “follow a new tariff policy”.
