Road freight transport in 2020 marks a double-digit drop

Road freight transport both inland and to and from Cyprus marked a double-digit reduction in 2020, reflecting the restrictions and the decline in economic activity due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat), in 2020 the total weight of goods transported by road in Cyprus decreased to 26 million tonnes marking a reduction of 11.3% compared with 2019, while the weight of freight transported from and to Cyprus decreased 25,200 tonnes down by 12% compared with the year before.

During the period of October-December 2020, the total weight of goods transported by road in Cyprus registered a decrease of 10% compared to the corresponding period of 2019, while the weight of freight transported from and to Cyprus recorded a decrease of 1.8%, Cystat added.
