Turnover Value Index of Transport and Storage increases by 29.2%

An increase of 29.2% was recorded for the Turnover Value Index of Transport and Storage in the fourth quarter of 2021, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, reaching 103.1 units, according to the Statistical Service.

The highest increase was observed in water transport by 87.4%, in comparison to the same period in 2020, reaching 75.2 units (base year 2015=100). Air transport recorded an increase of 46.6%, reaching 1,190.4 units. The Statistical Service notes that the air transport was affected by the opening/closure of airline companies.

Land Transport reached 112.2 units, recording an increase of 36.1% in the fourth quarter of 2021. An increase of 29.1% was observed in warehousing and support activities for transportation, reaching 99 units, while a small decrease of 0.2% was observed in postal and courier activities, which remain in 148.4 units.

During the period January-December 2021, the Turnover Value Index of Transport and Storage recorded an increase of 9.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2020, with the highest increase being recorded in water transport (yearly increase of 43.5%).
