Lebanon foreign minister Gebran Bassil, his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias and foreign minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides, discussed ways of co-operation in the energy, tourism and commerce sectors today, at an extraordinary trilateral summit.
According to a written statement the participants agreed to host a separate meeting of the ministers` permanent secretaries in Athens to review these matters in greater detail.
Mr. Kasoulides hosted today’s summit that was held in Brussels.
Supporting Lebanon, fighting terrorism and the migration crisis were among the issues discussed.
The trilateral summit took place in a friendly and productive spirit enhancing the prospect of greater cooperation between Lebanon, Greece and Cyprus while also focusing on the challenges Lebanon faces. The Greek and Cypriot ministers agreed to visit Lebanon shortly.
According to a written statement following the summit, the foreign ministers discussed regional issues and stressed the importance of supporting the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean. They also discussed ways to fight terrorism and agreed on the need for data exchange with third countries` security services on the issue.
Kasoulides and Kotzias highlighted the importance of maintaining the stability of Lebanon and expressed their readiness to support the country in the framework of the EU.
