ACTA: Eurocypria must close in May

26/10/2010 14:44
The closing of Eurocypria will be destructive for the island’s tourist industry during winter.

In an announcement, the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTA) explained that Eurocypria has already sold a large number of seats during winter, especially from Germany, and a possible cancellation of a flight will cause problems to the flight schedule of the tour operators.

ACTA recommended that the flights of Eurocypria should be terminated in May, otherwise the impacts will be destructive for both the island’s tourism and the foreign tour operators. “The winter tourism is very important for Cyprus and such negative development would maximize the problems”, it said.

ACTA wondered whether the competitive authorities are aware of the fact that Cyprus Airways cannot undertake Eurocypria’s flight schedule without having secured the necessary licenses first, which takes time.

“If no solutions are found immediately, the impacts on the island’s tourism will be incalculable”, the announcement concluded.
