Newly appointed Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdiοs referred to the need of diversifying Cyprus’ tourist product and investing in the competitive advantages of the country, during his first meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism.

As he said, Cyprus should invest in its competitive advantages such as the climate, hospitality and the plethora of experiences it could offer, beyond the sun and the sea.

He also said that the Deputy Ministry has started a round of contacts with all stakeholders to gather insights and be able to shape its strategy over the next few months.

Perdios said that along with the increased arrivals it was also important to focus on ‘quality tourists’ that would also determine the markets which the ministry would target.

He also said that dealing with seasonality and connectivity was very important for the Deputy Ministry and that there was huge room for improvement.

At the same time, he pointed out that Cyprus was very close to many countries where there was no tourist flow yet, such as countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

He added that different targeting should be made on different markets and he expressed the view that not all customers want to hear the same things.

He also said that landmark projects such as the casino resort and marinas could attract investors in the field of tourism.
