Deputy Tourism Minister presents main goals of the 2030 National Strategy for Tourism

Cyprus Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios presented the main goals of the 2030 National Strategy for Tourism, during a teleconference with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) delegation, headed by its Executive Director, Zhu Shanzhong.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism the teleconference took place on February 22, also with the participation of the Ambassador of Cyprus to Spain, Elena Mina. Perdios focused on issues such as the achievement of a balanced tourist development, through, among others, the development of rural tourism, the support of local societies and the promotion of special types of tourism.

He stressed the importance attributed to sustainability issues and relevant activities scheduled in the framework of the Strategy. He also noted the need to strengthen cooperation between UNWTO and its island member states.

On his part, the UNWTO Executive Director praised Cyprus for its results and general performance as a tourist destination and expressed the UNWTO readiness to support the country`s efforts, in concrete ways, with a view to offer a more authentic and qualitative tourist experience to its visitors.

According to the press release, the two sides underlined their intention to further enhance and extend their cooperation ties.
